Hi! Would you mind sharing your opinions on what the elections in Russia will be like in 2012? Who’s gonna take part? Who’s gonna win? Will it be Medvedev against Putin?

Must be Putin and Medvedev against each other in the second tour. I can’t imagine any other scenario.

As a matter of fact yes, after Medvedev’s announcement the result of the following election is an understood thing. It couldn’t happen otherwise actually. “Edinaya Rossia” has become much too powerful a party to ever let their power go. But technically it’s impossible to go without the election procedure so that the opposing parties could try their luck somehow.

It does seem that Putin has more of a powerful presence then Medvedev. But over all, wouldn’t it be better for Russia to have a new face running the country?
Also I never quite understood who had more power. The president or the prime minister. Or is it an equal deal? I mean in reality, not theory.

They both have equal power, I suppose. I see it as a game: the one (M) plays the “good cop”, and the other (P) plays the “bad cop”, but in fact they are both pursuing the same purposes.
