Does anyone happen to know the difference between these two names? Are they variants of one and the same name or are they different?

The two names are really different. Игорь is an Old German name which means “defender”, while Егор is of Greek origin and it means “farmer”. But I admit that they both sound quite similar but that’s nothing but a linguistic coincidence.

Igor and Yegor are just as different as Marina and Maria.
YEGOR and GEORGIY are the same name. Yegor is actually derivated from Georgiy. It’s a Greek name.

Егор, Юрий and Георгий are the same name. They all mean “farmer” and are its different variations.
